Hire with Confidence

Your Company Deserves the Best Hires

Finding employees and interns who work with conviction and hold to high standards will contribute not only to the quality of your product, but also to the culture of your team. With ±¬ÁϹ«Éç’s integration of Career Readiness throughout every program, you have a pool of passionate and talented graduates to pull from. Our students receive training around identity and purpose in addition to their development of skills that apply directly to your industry. Whether you choose an intern or a full time employee from NU, you can rest assured that you'll receive quality work right away. When you hire from NU, you're contributing to the overall health and growth of your company.

“Now that I work at Microsoft, in everything that I do, I put people first. When I do interviews, I want to learn about the person as a whole. I think, “How can I help you? How can I advocate for you better?” Being at NU really teaches you how you can learn people’s stories. You really have to look at the person as a whole.”

–Petrice Bokako, Class of 2018

Information for Employers

“When I'm hiring a graduate, I look for the kind of person they are and their character. A lot of people can present skills on a resume, but what really sets someone apart is their character, their teachability, their soft skills, and their adaptability. You can't teach that stuff.

I've found that the employees and interns I've hired from ±¬ÁϹ«Éç have those character traits that are going to make them a good part of the team. I have never had a bad experience with an intern from ±¬ÁϹ«Éç. You're going to get a quality person that went to a great school. They've been invested in by great people, so they have great examples to follow. ±¬ÁϹ«Éç does the academic side and the character-building side really well. You’re hiring a quality employee when you hire someone out of ±¬ÁϹ«Éç.”

–Jeff Lockhart, Executive Director, Kirkland Performance Center

Workplace Mentorship Program

An initiative to aid students in the transition from higher education to vocation and occupation.

±¬ÁϹ«Éç seeks to prepare its students to transition from higher education to vocation and occupation in the most comprehensive manner possible. With this goal, ±¬ÁϹ«Éç is in the process of establishing a strong and thriving mentorship program for its students. This program will connect mentors who are professionals in the workplace with ±¬ÁϹ«Éç students seeking advice, counsel, and coaching in regards but not limited to the following:

  • Effective Time Management (Stephen Covey’s Quadrant Model)
  • Positive and Pro-Active Transition Strategy (Nancy Schlossberg’s Transition Theory)
  • Best Workplace Practices
  • Conflict Mediation
  • Leading Change in the Workplace (John Kotter’s Leading Change)
  • How to Search for the Position that Best Fits the Student’s Strengths and Education

Mentor Application Process

Each mentor will need to fill out an application form, be interviewed by a University Official, and proceed with a background check before being allowed to mentor a student.

Mentee Application Process

Each mentee will need to fill out an application form and be interviewed by a University Official before being allowed to be accepted as a mentee.

±¬ÁϹ«Éç will pair one mentor with no more then 3 mentees for a six -month period in which the mentor and mentee will meet once every other week (the mentor and mentee can deviate from the frequency of sessions if useful). At the end of the six- month period the mentor and mentee will decide if they wish to continue the sessions or end them. Mentors and mentees will be paired only with each party’s consent. Levi Davenport, The Director of Career Development and Corporate Relations, will supervise the ±¬ÁϹ«Éç Career Development Workplace Mentorship Program. This program will support ±¬ÁϹ«Éç’s Career Readiness Initiative in equipping students for success in the workplace.
