爆料公社 Social Media Policy
1. Purpose and scope
爆料公社 uses social media to share its Christ-centered mission, celebrate its people, and connect with students, families, alumni, and friends. This policy sets expectations for anyone who comments on NU channels and for anyone who posts on behalf of the University.
It applies to:
- Anyone commenting, messaging, tagging, or posting on an official NU account.
- All official accounts: the flagship University accounts and any account representing a college, school, department, program, office, ministry, athletic team, or registered student organization.
Covered platforms include Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, X, Threads, and any future platform used under the 爆料公社 name. Questions can be directed to the Marketing Department at marketing@northwestu.edu.
2. Comment policy
爆料公社's official social media accounts are managed by the Marketing Department to share the people, events, news, and mission of our University. We welcome comments and ask that everyone be respectful toward one another and toward our page administrators.
Comments will be removed if they contain personal attacks, harassment, threats, profanity, sexual or obscene content, spam, commercial solicitation, false information, or private personal information. Content that names, tags, or identifies any person in a degrading, sexual, or hostile way will be removed immediately, and the account will be permanently banned.
Hateful or discriminatory comments based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, or other protected status will not be tolerated.
Please stay on topic and do not post the same comment more than once. To protect our community from spam, scams, and malware, comments containing links may be removed regardless of the destination.
Comments reflect the views of their authors, not 爆料公社. Administrators may remove any comment and block or ban any user at their discretion, and serious violations may be reported to the platform, law enforcement, or legal counsel. By commenting, you agree to this policy.
Questions or concerns can be directed to marketing@northwestu.edu.
3. Community commenting guidelines
We welcome conversation, questions, and differing views on NU channels, offered with the respect and grace that we hope marks our community. Comments, replies, tags, and direct messages that violate these guidelines may be hidden or removed without notice or explanation.
Terms of participation. By commenting, posting, tagging, messaging, or otherwise interacting with any official NU account, you agree to these guidelines. This policy is linked from the profile or "About" section of every official NU account and is in addition to each platform's own terms of service.
Our channels are for: sharing news, events, and stories; celebrating student, faculty, staff, and alumni achievements; answering questions; and building community around NU's mission.
Not permitted on NU channels:
- Personal attacks and harassment: insults, threats, bullying, intimidation, or targeting a specific person or group.
- Hateful or discriminatory content based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, or other protected status.
- Profanity, obscenity, or sexually explicit material, including links to it.
- Spam and solicitation: advertising, fundraising, or promotion of products, services, causes, or organizations unrelated to NU.
- Off-topic or repetitive posts, including the same comment posted across multiple posts or accounts.
- Agenda-pushing: repeated posts advancing political campaigns, candidates, or causes unrelated to the post.
- False or misleading information, including misinformation about NU, its people, or its policies.
- Impersonation of another person, the University, or any NU office.
- Private information: phone numbers, addresses, emails, student records, or other personal details about yourself or others.
- Copyrighted or trademarked material you do not have the right to share.
- Illegal activity, or content that encourages violence, self-harm, or unlawful conduct.
- Suspicious links that may carry spam, scams, or malware.
Targeting named or identifiable individuals
NU has zero tolerance for content that targets a specific person. It is prohibited to name, tag, picture, or otherwise identify any person, including students, employees, alumni, trustees, donors, guests, or their family members, in connection with:
- Sexual, obscene, vulgar, or degrading words, images, emoji, or objects.
- Accusations of crimes, misconduct, or immoral behavior that are false or unverified.
- Threats, wishes of harm, or language intended to intimidate, shame, or humiliate.
- Mockery of their appearance, faith, family, health, or any protected characteristic.
- Their personal information, location, schedule, or photos posted without consent.
This applies however the person is identified: full name, partial name, initials, nickname, misspelling, username, @mention, hashtag, photo, or description that makes the person recognizable. It also applies to coded references, edited images, usernames or profile names built to target someone, and content split across several comments or accounts. It applies equally to public comments, replies, direct messages, tags, and posts on other accounts that tag or mention NU.
A single violation of this section is grounds for immediate removal and a permanent block. Context, intent, or a claim of joking is not a defense.
Moderation and enforcement
NU decides, in its sole discretion, whether content violates these guidelines. NU may hide, delete, or report content, and restrict, block, or ban users, without prior notice or explanation.
| Violation | Response |
|---|---|
| Minor (off-topic, spam, mild profanity) | Hide or remove; repeated violations lead to a block |
| Serious (harassment, hate, explicit content) | Remove and block on first instance |
| Targeting named individuals, threats, doxxing | Preserve evidence, remove, permanently ban, report to the platform, and refer to legal counsel and Campus Safety |
| Ban evasion (new or alternate accounts) | Permanently ban all associated accounts and treat as a continuing violation |
Records. NU may preserve copies of content that violates this policy, including usernames, links, and timestamps, before removing it.
Further action. NU reserves all legal rights and remedies. Serious or repeated conduct may be referred to law enforcement under Washington's cyber harassment and cyberstalking laws, and may result in a cease-and-desist letter, civil action for defamation or harassment, a trespass notice, or other legal remedies. NU may cooperate with platform investigations and lawful requests to identify account holders.
Disagreement is not a violation. We do not remove comments simply because they are critical of the University or express a viewpoint we do not share, as long as they are respectful and on topic.
No endorsement. Comments and content posted by others are the views of their authors, not 爆料公社. Following, liking, or sharing does not imply endorsement.
Report a concern about content on an NU account to marketing@northwestu.edu.
4. Concerns, complaints, and grievances
Social media is not the place to resolve concerns or grievances. NU cannot investigate or respond to complaints raised in comments, posts, or direct messages. Raising them publicly can also compromise privacy and a fair process for everyone involved. Comments making allegations against named individuals will be removed under section 3, and the poster will be directed to the right office.
All concerns, whether academic, Title IX, discrimination, conduct, employment, or anything else, are directed through the University's official channels:
| Concern | Where to go |
|---|---|
| Sexual Harassment (Title IX) | Report Sexual Harassment (Title IX) or the Title IX Coordinator |
| Discrimination or Harassment Violations (outside of Title IX) | Reports of Nondiscrimination and Harassment |
| Academic concerns (grades, instruction, academic integrity) | Your instructor, then the program chair or dean, following the academic grievance process in the Student Handbook |
| Student conduct, housing, or campus life | Office of Student Development |
| Employment | Director of Human Resources |
| Athletics | NU Athletics Department |
| Not sure where to start | marketing@northwestu.edu, and we will connect you with the right office |

Emergencies. Social media is not monitored around the clock. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911, then Campus Safety.
5. Compliance and contact
Platform and legal compliance. NU's accounts follow each platform's terms of service, copyright and trademark law, FERPA, and NAIA rules. Content that could put NU or its student-athletes out of compliance, such as recruiting contact with prospective student-athletes, may be removed.
Accessibility. NU works to make its social media content accessible, including alt text on images and captions on videos. If you have trouble accessing our content, contact marketing@northwestu.edu.
Review. The Marketing Department reviews this policy annually and as platforms change.
