Navigating the NursingCAS

Oh. Um, so let me share my screen.

Okay. Go.

So, this is our main ±¬ÁϹ«Éç website, and you can find a lot of the information for nursing if you go to the academic section in the School of Nursing. If you look at prospective applicants, this tells you information about how to apply and the deadlines for applying. It gives you the admissions requirements, which go through all of the courses that are required, as well as the immunization requirements. And then, most importantly, it goes through the NursingCAS instructions, which Jamie will be giving us a little bit more information about.

All right. So, let’s just work our way through this list. You must apply to ±¬ÁϹ«Éç, so if you have not done that yet, please do that. The nursing department cannot look at your application until you have been accepted at ±¬ÁϹ«Éç.

Do you want to scroll down on the instructions?

Okay. So, this information is really helpful, and I would encourage you to look it over. I want to highlight the Help Center, which I’ll show you when we get into NursingCAS, and the deadline. It’s the 31st of January, but NursingCAS is located on the East Coast, which means that midnight on the East Coast is 9:00 here. And please don’t wait till the end. It gets glitchy.

NursingCAS is used by many, many, many nursing schools, and there are many, many deadlines at the end of many, many months. Well, there are only 12 months, so the end of the month can be really difficult. I know at least two people who waited until the end and could not submit because the website was too full. So, don’t wait until the end.

Let’s go to the application, because that’s probably—well, just scroll down so people can see what’s here. There are a lot of helpful things here, but I’m going to show you inside of the application how all these things work.

Okay, cool. So, go back up, and we’re going to go to the application, which there’s a link here. Yes, NursingCAS.

You will select the term for which you’re seeking admission. That would be Fall ’26. If you’re applying for Fall ’27, don’t bother yet. You click apply, and you will create an account.

Sarah’s already created her account. Up at the top, where it says “Add Program,” you will want to add ±¬ÁϹ«Éç if you haven’t done this yet. If you’re new to the application, or if you are reapplying from last year, you’re going to need to do this too.

You select ±¬ÁϹ«Éç, and then you add it, and they give you some information.

It’s already added on my application. So, you can go back to here, and you can tell it’s there because over in the lower right box it says “Program Materials.” That is the ±¬ÁϹ«Éç-specific material.

Just so you know, if you applied last year and are reapplying this year, make sure when you get in this year that you reset your bookmark, because last year’s bookmark will take you to last year’s application. This is a different one than last year. That’s just for those of you who did this before.

All right, so let’s open up personal information. This is really straightforward. Remember that every section except the program information is NursingCAS general. So, if there’s a question that you’re a little surprised that ±¬ÁϹ«Éç asked, that’s because it’s NursingCAS asking that question. These are all pretty straightforward. It shouldn’t take you endless time, but this section is required.

Back to my application.

I also want to highlight, right now, in the upper right corner—that question mark is a wealth of information. This is the Help Center, and inside there’s information about lots of different things. There is also a button that allows you to contact them, and there’s an email and a phone number.

The email—I’ve used it once, and they got back to me in 24 hours. Again, at the end of the month it could take a little longer. The phone number—remember, they’re East Coast time. So if they work 8:00 to 5:00, that’s going to be 5:00 in the morning our time to 2:00 in the afternoon our time. But people have called and had a lot of help.

The most important time that you would call or contact them is if you have trouble with the application. So, let’s say you can’t get something to flip over, or you can’t get something to load, or something like that—a technical problem. Contact them. It happens. It’s just the reality of technology. Go ahead and contact them, and they can help you.

Okay. Academic history. This is the most time-consuming part.

You will want to list your high school. Pretty simple.

Colleges attended. Okay, so Sarah told us that she went to Bellevue College. Whether it’s true or not doesn’t matter. But you would list any college that you went to. Notice there’s a blue button that says “Add a college or university,” and you’ll list all the schools you attended.

Any school you attended that shows up on any transcript that you are going to use for your nursing application needs to go in there.

I say that because, let’s say you went to, oh, I don’t know, Video Game Tech, and you took a bunch of video game classes, but you never transferred them to any of the schools that you’re using for nursing. You don’t have to put that transcript in here. But if you went to Video Game Tech and you took Composition 1 and you transferred it into Bellevue College, and then you took Bellevue College classes, you’re going to have to get the transcript from Video Game Tech.

So, any school that shows up on any transcript that you’re submitting here needs to go in here.

Sarah went to Bellevue College. They ask the dates that you attended. There’s a fill-in thing. It’s very straightforward. And then it’s quarter system, and she did not earn a degree.

Down below it, it says “Official transcript not yet received.” NursingCAS is really good at telling you where you are in your process. Notice next to that it says “Order.” So click Order.

There are two options for ordering: National Student Clearinghouse and Parchment. If you don’t know, if you click one and you don’t find your school, then you know it’s the other one. It’s either-or. You’ve got a 50-50 chance.

So, Sarah, just click Parchment.

If you use Parchment, see in step three—include the Bellevue College transcript ID number. There’s a little copy button. This will come up when you get into requesting your transcript, so make sure you copy that. And then you would click—we’re not going to do it—but you’d click “Visit Parchment.” Then you’d put in Bellevue College, and if Bellevue uses Parchment, it’ll work. If Bellevue doesn’t, it won’t. You’ll go back and use National Student Clearinghouse.

So, it’s kind of like there are two. It’s sort of like we all have cell phones, but we use different providers. Well, we all go to college, but they use different transcript providers: Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse.

Okay. Will you click “I will do this later”? So that’s how you order your transcript.

I don’t know how long it’ll take. It can take longer than you think. Also, when NursingCAS gets your application, it can take a while for them to post it as received. So even though you’re sure that Bellevue sent the transcript, and you’re sure that it was sent on Monday, and there’s nothing there, and you don’t see anything here, it could be a couple Mondays before it shows up on NursingCAS. Probably not two, but it could take a week. It takes them a while.

Okay. So, you list your schools.

Now we’re going to enter everything on the transcripts. Transcript entry. This is the hard part.

Every school that you listed will show up there. Sarah’s done her entire Bellevue transcript, so click edit. The green means she’s done, and she only took two classes.

You will want to get a transcript, and I would recommend an official transcript just to make sure it’s right, for yourself, because you’re going to list every class on your transcript on this, in order.

So, if you spent four years out of school and you went three quarters every year, you’re going to have 12 of those semesters or quarters there to list. You’ve got to list every quarter or every semester, every course, every grade, et cetera.

Notice that Sarah wrote ACCT 101. That’s the course code. She found that on her transcript. The name of it is Practical Accounting 1. The subject is accounting. Don’t stress the subject. Get close enough. It’s a pull-down menu, so you get the one that matches what you took.

And then credits. She already said she’s on the quarter system, so she put in her five credits, and she got a B-plus. Nice job. The CAS grade is automatically generated, so don’t worry about that. You put in the grade that it says on your transcript.

Then her second line was that she took Human Anatomy and Physiology. Interesting combination. She might have made those up.

But the whole goal is that you list your entire transcript in order as it appears on your transcript. You can abbreviate the course titles, because sometimes course titles are long. Notice she abbreviated Human Anatomy and PHY. That’s fine.

Once you have completed your transcript and submitted your application, NursingCAS is going to take your official transcript, which you sent them, and they’re going to set it next to what you wrote and go down the list to make sure that everything you wrote is exactly like on your transcript. So, we’re looking for identical.

Does that make sense? It’s really weird when I can’t see you. Nod your head. Yes, it makes sense.

So, the goal is to make it look just like your official transcript.

Notice that it says, “Is entering your coursework taking too long? Save time.” Don’t.

We do not recommend paying for them to do it for you, because they take a very long time. Everyone I know that’s done it has ended up stopping it, because it took longer for NursingCAS to finish than our department was willing to wait to look over their application. So please don’t pay to have NursingCAS do your transcript entry.

Okay. Then once you get those in, scroll down a little bit, Sarah. What’s going to happen is—and everybody does this, and I’ve never had anyone have any difficulty on this—but once you get your transcript entries, you will be matching these classes with the class you took on that list that is the same one.

So, wherever you took General Psychology, the first one listed, you’re going to match that with the class you took within all your classes that is General Psychology.

The reason for that is because NursingCAS will then pull all those grades of those classes and get you your pre-nursing GPA, which is what ±¬ÁϹ«Éç’s Buntain School of Nursing is interested in.

So, you have to list every class you took, but the only grades that count are the ones for nursing.

There’s also a helpful video up here if you need help with the transcript entry, because that’s probably the most time-consuming part. They have a video tutorial for you to watch.

Standardized tests—please don’t put anything in there. Nursing school doesn’t look at them, so you will waste your time if you put anything in there. If you’re bored, I suppose you could, but don’t bother. We don’t take any standardized tests.

Okay. Back to my application. If you click “My Application,” it goes back to the four sections.

Okay. Supporting information. Click that.

I tell people anything that shows you to be a good student, a good nurse, a good caregiver, or a leader is worthwhile to put in.

Licensures and certifications—only working hospital licensures. Okay? We don’t want your motorcycle license. But if you have a CNA or a med tech, you want to put those in.

Experiences and achievements are just what they say. So if you were on the honor roll, yes, list that. If you worked in a hospital, yes, list that.

Okay. And then finally, the ±¬ÁϹ«Éç program materials. This is our section.

So, this was created by Sarah and a few others. Home—this just describes, if you’ve read through our stuff, you’ve seen all this before: what you need to take, et cetera, the deadline, all that.

Go back up.

The next section is our questions. This is the second longest part to do. Some are easy. Have you previously been enrolled? Yes or no? Simple. Do you have a health-related license or certification, et cetera?

Then we get down to essay questions. Please read the question. Please edit your essay. I would encourage you to do it in a Word document so that you can edit it and check it. Have a friend read it over. Does it make sense? Does it answer the question? Super helpful.

If there’s something that you want ±¬ÁϹ«Éç to know about you that you feel is significant that didn’t get answered in one of those questions, this last question—we encourage you to share anything else we should know as we consider your application—that’s your chance.

Maybe you ended up living on a sailboat for a year, so you couldn’t take classes, so that explains your grades—or something. I don’t know. Whatever you want to say that you feel we need to know.

The rest of them are pretty self-explanatory.

And then documents. So this is two documents. The School of Nursing wants to make sure you understand what they’re about and what their mission, vision, and purpose is.

The second one, as I tell my students, is to make sure you understand that we are a Christian university, and we are Christian in all our elements. So don’t imagine that just going to chapel is going to cut it. You are going to hear it in your classes. So this is just, “I understand it’s Christian.”

You will download each one of them, digitally sign it, and upload it—the first one in the first section, and the second one in the second section.

There are no optional documents that I can think of that you would want, so don’t do that.

Okay. And the last thing is we just list the prerequisites again. This is where you would go back to your transcript entry and match them.

So that’s the gist of it.

General Application & ±¬ÁϹ«Éç Questions

The Buntain School of Nursing currently does not review or accept letters of recommendation.

NursingCAS FAQs – General

All communication will be sent through the NursingCAS WebAdMIT system. Be sure to use an email you check regularly when creating your account and monitor your spam and junk folders. Double-check that your information is correct in the Personal Information section. Both NursingCAS and the Buntain School of Nursing will contact you using the email you provided.

Applicants whose application status is “verified” will be notified by early April about their application decision.

You will receive an email from NursingCAS or the Buntain School of Nursing via NursingCAS. Be sure to check your email regularly, including spam and junk folders. Once you address the issue, your application review will resume. Please email to confirm that you understand the issue and are working to resolve it.

This question is included by NursingCAS itself, not the Buntain School of Nursing. It is not used in our admissions process, and you may opt out of answering.

Double check that all four sections of the application (Personal Information, Academic History, Supporting Information, and Program Materials) have been completed. If all sections are completed and you still cannot submit the application, contact NursingCAS for help.

Keep in mind that the portal closes promptly at the deadline and will not accept late submissions, which is why we strongly recommend submitting early.

Next to your name on the application, there will be a “?” icon. Click on that icon and you will be connected with the CAS helpdesk.

NursingCAS FAQs – Academic History & Transcripts

Those are college credits and will be included on your college transcript. Make sure to include them in your Academic History section and order transcripts for them as well.

To enter AP courses, add them under your first term, mirroring how they appear on your official transcript, including the course code, title, subject, credits, and grade. If your transcript lists AP credits as “CR”, enter that as the grade.

Yes. NursingCAS needs to verify your coursework before your application can be reviewed by the Buntain School of Nursing. NursingCAS only verifies coursework once they have received official transcripts for all coursework. We recommend ordering your transcripts as soon as you can to mitigate issues.

Once you enter the colleges or universities you have attended in your application, an “Order” button will appear for each school. Use that button to request official transcripts.

It can take several days for NursingCAS to process your transcripts. It is normal to get confirmation they were sent, then have several days before NursingCAS notes them as received on your account. If it has been more than a week between sending and receiving, please reach out to them, otherwise the timing is normal.

If you have any other questions about the application, visit the .
