NU SwoopShop Student Worker


Position Details

Department NU SwoopShop
Reports To Senior HR Generalist
Openings 2
Time Commitment SwoopShop regular hours are Mondays from 10am to 2pm and Fridays from 11:15am-2pm. Additional hours may be available for special events. Approximately 5-10 hours per week starting Fall 2026

Position Summary

The NU SwoopShop student worker assists with the operations of the NU SwoopShop. Key responsibilities include providing excellent customer service, operating the point of sale (POS) system, organizing and stocking displays, assisting with social media posts, helping to maintain cleanliness and inventory levels and opening and closing procedures. 

Essential Functions

  • Sales & Customer Service: Provides a high level of customer service by greeting and assisting customers with questions about products and making appropriate recommendations. Processes customer transactions accurately and efficiently using the point-of-sale (POS) system. 
  • Merchandise Upkeep & Inventory: Assist with receiving, unloading, unpacking, and pricing new merchandise shipments. Helps to maintain organized and appealing merchandise displays. Monitors inventory to prevent product damage and/or loss (theft). 
  • Social Media: Assists with creating and posting engaging social media content to promote store merchandise and events.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Helps maintain the general cleanliness and organization of the SwoopShop. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Education/Experience/Skills

  • A friendly, outgoing, helpful, and courteous attitude towards customers.
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently, as well as part of the team.
  • Experience with computers for operating the POS system.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, especially during peak academic periods and sporting events. 
  • Demonstrate commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, get along well with co-workers, and deal effectively and professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Retail or customer service experience preferred.

Working Environment: 

  • Work is generally performed indoors in a typical retail setting.
  • Some weekend/evening work is required.
  • Position works with strictly confidential information.

Physical Demands: 

The functions are usually performed while standing, but may involve some amount of time sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting (max. of 40 lbs.), walking, carrying, reaching, stretching, climbing, perform repetitive motions of the hands or wrists and other movements.  The abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking are also required.
